Boracay Dead Forest
sits at the southern end of Bulabog Boracay Beach, an abandoned
fishpond with branches of dead mangroves reaching strangely out of
the water. The mangroves are said to have died when the fishpond dam
broke and seawater flooded the pond. The effect is impressive and
excellent for photography. The old folk in Boracay tell stories of
the strange, supernatural events occurring there, so be careful!
Walking from the Dead Forest in Boracay toward the beach, many live
mangroves with their twisted, exposed roots are still to be seen.
Boracay Island has several picturesque small ponds and areas covered with rainwater most of the year, where water buffalos ("the farmer's friend", carabao in Tagalog) are sometimes seen cooling in the water. Lovely water lily's cover the pond in Yapak Village. Other ponds may be seen along the Bulabog Road and not far away beside the Main Road. Near Manoc Manoc is large, beautiful meadow rich with wild grass, surrounded by large trees and usually covered by shallow water fed by the rain.
Boracay Dead Forest is reached by walking along Lagutan Road from the Main Road, or by walking from Bulabog Boracay Beach.
